Indian Institute of Handloom Technology is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Industries, Government of Kerala and the nodal agency in the State for giving input of Science and Technology to the traditional Handloom Textile Industry. The Institute was established and registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 in the year 1987 in the name of Institute of Handloom and Textile Technology(IHTT). Indian Institute of Handloom Technology-Kannur, is one among the 10 IIHTs which is an autonomous Institute under Industries department, Govt of Kerala and the nodal agency in the state for providing science and Technology to the traditional Handlooms and textile Industry. The Institute was established and registered under Societies registration Act of 1860 in the year 1987 named as Handloom training institute( HTI) and then upgraded as Institute of Handloom and textile technology (IHTT). Now IHTT is amalgamated to Indian institute of Handloom Technology-Kannur (IIHT-K)
